1ST PLT, C CO, 1ST BN, 5TH MARINES, 1ST MARDIV
From Palos Heights, IL

Fred Hartman was my platoon commander in Viet Nam. He showed genuine care and concern for all his men. He took the time to get to know and talk to each of us under his command, he led by example, and thus gained our respect and care.He was walking with the point element of a patrol into an area that was considered a "no-mans-land," when he met his untimely death.
Fred Hartman was a good man, and embodied "Always Faithful" in the tradition of the United States Marine Corps.
