Keith and I went to OCS, The Basic School (Quantico, VA) and Field Artillery Officer Basic Class (FAOBC) at Fort Sill, OK together. There were over 50 Marines in that class of just over 100. I understand that Keith and the officer that he was replacing were both killed by shell fragments as they met on the LZ. Ironically, Keith's replacement could have left the day before but stayed behind to brief Keith on his responsibilities.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

A review of the Marine casualties on 18 Sep 1967 failed to identify another officer who could have been involved in this incident - or indeed any other Marine who died by enemy artillery, rocket, or mortar fire on that date. A further review of all subsequent known 2/12 deaths did not uncover an officer who might have been wounded on 18 Sep but died at a later date.
