I have such vivid memories of playing baseball against you. I now live in your home town of Orting. I drive by the baseball field of the high school and think of you, one of the best pitchers there was. I stand there and think of what should have been. I can not say how proud I was to play against you and for what you have done.

A Note from The Virtual WallThe book and movie We Were Soldiers Once - and Young made the 7th Cavalry's November 1965 fight in the Ia Drang Valley well known to Americans - but the 1st Cavalry Division's losses in the Ia Drang area neither began nor ended with that battle.On 02 August 1966, A Company, 2/7th Cavalry, was back in the Valley. Eighteen Americans died on that day in an engagement with North Vietnamese regulars at Landing Zone PINK, 23 kilometers west-southwest of the Catecka airfield:
