Joe was a near relative, my wife's cousin's wife's nephew. His parents still live in our neighborhood and we see them occasionally. Joe was killed in 1970. I returned from DaNang at the Naval Support Activity in October of 1967 after a year of service there. It was quite a blow to me that Joe Horsman was killed in Vietnam but I came home to raise a family. We have a flagpole base plaque at St Martha's Church in his memory that was erected in 1975. That was his grade school in Louisville, Kentucky.

I played high school basketball with Joe for four years at Trinity High School in Louisville. Joe was the fiercest competitor on our team as well as the best player. He was the most gregarious, hard-working, and charismatic memeber of the team. He was our leader. I loved him and think about him all the time.
