Spent my first night in the field with Johnny. He made a difficult time a lot easier. Johnny had a 57 Chevy, his favorite song was a Simon & Garfunkle tune, and he never made love to Debbie. Died way too young. I visit his parents (Sam and Mary) and sisters (Marylin and Janice) at least once a year. Wonderful family. Ben, Dave, Carl and I miss him tremendously. The 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry, deployed to Vietnam in 1967. There, in battles from the A Shau Valley to the Iron Triangle, the Rakkasans added nine decorations and twelve battle streamers to the two decorations and three battle streamers of WWII and the four decorations and six battle streamers of Korea. |
