Welsh, aircraft commander WO1 Joseph C. Sampson, copilot SP5 Harold W. Reinbott, crew chief PFC James Wilford Collins, gunner C Company, 4th Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade SSG Joseph Francis Hunt PFC Joe David Kegley PFC Melvin Warren McDowell PFC Carlos David Moore PFC Jerry L. Schemel 173rd Engineer Company, 173rd Abn Bde PFC James L. McCrystal, Little Rock, AR A/82 Avn was supporting a 173rd Abn troop lift. This aircraft was number 8 in the formation. It was seen to pitch up to a vertical position, falling off to the left. It completed a 270 degree turn while descending rapidly and exploded on impact with trees. Post-crash analysis determined the crash was due to a mechanical failure.
