Don and I met as newly-minted 2LTs of Armor at the officer basic course at Fort Knox, KY, in June 68. He was generous and posessed an easy humor. Don and I continued to be friends until he got orders and was off to Vietnam ahead of me. He truly was all that was good of us as then young men, and when it is said that war always takes the best of the nation ... it is said of soldiers and friends like LT Don Kingery. May God bless you for your sacrifice and give His peace to your family.

Don, you were my best friend, my savior in times that were not fair, my hero in all things, and my "Big Brother". It has been so long now since I have seen your face and there is not a day that goes by that I do not miss you - your smile.

What would my life have been if you had not been lost to me? How would I be different - what person would I be? These are questions that will never be answered and in reality should not be.

You have a nephew that is so much like you. He has so many of your traits that you would think he was your child instead of mine. He looks, acts, smiles, and shines like you still do in my mind. He will carry the family name until maybe he passes it on to his son. His name - Matthew Lee. You have a niece, also. Such a beautiful person who has a daughter of her own now. The name you gave me, also, will be passed on - her name is Aligayle Grace.

I will always miss you - I will always long to know you as a man.
Your loving sister. Always
Sandy
