I am Harold L Hoopengarner and am interested to hear from any relative of Thomas Donald Kloss. He was a Medic with Delta Company 1st of the 8th Cavalry Division. This was a man who truly loved his sister and talked about her often. He also loved his fellow man and cared for and lost his life for them. He was braver than he or any of us thought any of us could be.

I served with Tom his entire tour. He had an outlook on life that has always motivated me. He was first and foremost dedicated to the well-being and medical care of all he served with. Tom will forever be in my memories as he was the kind of guy I never want to forget. God bless you Tom and thanks for all you did for me and the rest of our platoon.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

Two medics were killed during the engagement:
  • SGT Thomas D. Kloss, Los Angeles, CA, and
  • SGT Richard F. Quinn, Woodstock, NY (Dist Svc Cross).
The Citation for Sergeant Quinn's Distinguished Service Cross says that Delta Company had just departed its night defensive position and was moving down a narrow jungle trail when they engaged an enemy force.
