Mickey enlisted in the Army in Anchorage, Alaska but he was from Odessa, Texas in West Texas. His folks were up in Alaska working on the pipeline when Mickey enlisted in the Army. He was killed in Vietnam from a mortar/rocket attack. He is remembered by his hometown of Odessa and by the Permian Basin Vietnam Veterans Memorial located at Midland International Airport, Midland, Texas. May his sacrifice never be forgotten.
From a PBVVM representative, 30 Nov 2005 Mickey was born and spent the first 16 years of his life in Odessa, Texas. He now rests at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Odessa. He attended Permian High School through his sophomore year.
From a PBVVM representative, 29 Jan 2008 From an article Sunday, October 31, 1971 in the Odessa American, Odessa, Texas, I found that the Silver Star had been presented to the family of Private First Class Mickey Daniel Lang in ceremonies at Fort Richardson, Alaska for his actions which cost him his life in Vietnam. Private First Class Mickey Daniel Lang is buried in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Odessa. The family returned to Odessa to live many years later.
