I knew Horace when we were teenagers, delivering newspapers in our home town of Crowley, Lousiana. Even though Horace was a couple of years older than I was, I knew him to be a stand up guy. In fact the last memory I have of Horace was when he was getting beat up by a much bigger guy who was just being a jerk. Even though Horace was getting the short end of the deal he never gave up or even cried. And after the fight was over Horace said something like "I don't need help from anyone, I will fight my own battles".

Shortly thereafter we moved away for a while and when we moved back to Crowley I found out that Horace had been killed in Vietnam. I have never forgotten Horace and never will. I have been researching and trying to find out the events leading up to his being killed in action, but have not found out enough to write about yet. But what I do know is that Horace served in Lima Company 3/26 Marines for a short while and then was with Charlie Company 1/5 Marines and that he was killed in action in Quang Nam Province on September 04, 1968. If anyone who remembers Horace would please contact me I would greatly appreciate it and maybe allow me to provide a better memorial for this fallen Hero who died at such an early age.

To PFC Horace J. Lejeune and his family...

I have been in touch with a friend and fellow Marine who was with Horace on the day Horace was killed in action. As I had hoped Horace was not alone on Sept. 4th, 1968. Horace is a true hero and that his actions on that day saved the life of his friend and fellow Marine. This Marine has not forgotten, nor will he ever forget about Horace. I only hope that someday he finds peace and happiness in his life and that he should live a good life for the fiends that can't. But in the event that someone from Horace's family reads this small tribute to this young hero, please fell free to contact me so that I can pass on some more info about Horace. With great admiration for Horace and his family.

Respecfully

Horace Lejeune, Jr. was and always will be my friend. I was next to him the morning he "Gave All". I was his fire team leader. I miss him to this day. I am here today because of him, and each time I look at my children and grand-children, I thank him for making all of this possible for me. Semper Fi, my brother...

I didn't know Horace but we were from the same hometown and of the same generation. I just wanted him and any of his family and/or friends to know that I am still so very thankful to him and his fallen and living armed forces brothers for my and my family's freedom. I will always remember your sacrifice. Godspeed to you, Horace!

I am Horace's niece. I am actually having a difficult time writing something here about a man I never had the privilege of meeting but get told quite often I have his eyes. I am his niece and would like to thank you both for writing about my uncle. I love hearing about him from people who knew him ... it brings him to life so much for me.

Mr. Daigle, I would like you to know that we have a picture of my Uncle Horace with the Crowley Post Signal newspaper sack from when the two of you delivered papers.

Mr. Acosta, words can not express the gratatute I owe you for the stories you shared with me. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to hear about him from such a close friend. I thank you for the friendship you shared.

Above all to the person I've looked up to from the very begining - my Uncle. We all know where you are and know we'll see you there.

With Love and Admiration,
Paula Gary
