19 Jun 2007

Gary Manchester and I went through Basic Training and Infantry training together. We became good friends, and went on passes together in Asbury Park, NJ, and later in Seattle, WA. Gary was a great guy and fun to hang out with. We flew to Viet Nam at the same time, but were assigned to different units. I heard about two months later that he had been hit by an RPG while walking point.

The best way I could cope with Gary's death was to remember that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord". I have thought of you often, my friend.
