Our Brave Hero

His name was Charles C. Monroe;
He crossed the sea, to meet the foe
Although he did not have to go;
Three times the draft board told him "No".

Chuck was a brave, young man;
He chose to go, to a foreign land.
To fight for freedom, for you and me;
Now his deeds, we all shall see.

He answered the call, from Uncle Sam;
And soon was sent to Viet Nam.
On a hill over there, he fought and died;
with only God, by his side.

He did far more, than his share;
For some of those, Who did not care.
They burned their cards, to shun the call;
But he paid the price, for one and all.

So we could be free, in the land of the brave;
He traded his life, for a lonely grave.
When the chips were down, he was on the scene;
May God watch over, our brave Marine.
