SFC Ray Thomas Martin served two tours in the Republic of Viet Nam. His first tour, 1967-68, was with the 4th Infantry Division in Kontum and Pleiku Provinces.

He returned in 1969 to serve with MACV, and was assigned to Advisory Team 23 with the 42nd ARVN Infantry Regiment, headquartered at Tan Canh. During this tour he served with the 1st and 3rd Battalions. Although wounded in January, 1970, he stayed as an Advisor to the 3rd Bn in action north of Dak Seang, Kontum Province. SFC Ray Thomas Martin was killed in action 22 April, 1970.
