THE BACK SIDE OF THE WALL
by Yvonne Guidroz

Made of black granite on one side
Engraved with names who died
The other side of this wall?
Self made by those who survived.

We can see the many names of those
Ones who lost it all completely
Yet, Survivor's wounds cannot be seen
They are covered up too deeply.

What will it take to chisel away
Into the backside of this wall?
The side that holds the stories of pain
Is there a way to make it fall?

Much bravery and courage
Is be seen by the naked eye
Whereas pain and sorrow are covered up
By those who didn't die.

My heart cries out for the many
Those who didn't make it home
But it also cries out for the many
Those who have to carry on.

Oh, yes there stands another wall
Behind the one we look upon
Engraved with the names who still cry out
In the night when they are alone.

And yes there is a mighty answer
For all questions asked above
The God who cares and made us
Can dislodge it with love.

But first we must learn to trust Him
To take care of every distress
And when we do we will discover
That in His arms is rest.

Made of black granite on one side
Engraved with names who died
The other side of this wall?
Self made by those who survived.
