A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 15 March 1967 the airfield at Cu Chi was subjected to a mortar bombardment. Two men are known to have died as a result of the attack. SFC Robert V. Crain of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, assigned to the 116th Assault Helicopter Company, was killed outright, while SP4 William J. McDowell was badly wounded. He was transferred to an Army hospital in Japan, where he died on 30 March 1967.
