09 Jun 2006 "BROTHERS" The purple-blue of twilight, evening brings Murmuring voices, a mourning dove that sings A soldier then and now, I straighten as "TAPS" rings I see faces that are but shadows in a darkening sky Hear the voices of the night, sounds of a fight, and grown men cry And, wonder in my heart and mind, ... WHY? Life has begun to slow, my age to show I gather my pen and on paper bear my soul Only in this way can I my futile grief show My friends are listed here Some I did not know, yet friends I hold dear Others wonder why I touch a name and wipe away my tears If they only understood We were ...
