John,
Mike Fitzgerald |
This is our CorpsmanAssigned to a tent at Dong Ha- the tent was blown up by incoming rockets - you cared for the wounded
At a trash dump near Cam Lo
You were initiated at the Dunes
You drank chocolate milk
You marched naked
You listened attentively
You watched in horror
You survived a four hour firefight
Like a skilled surgeon
When Marines were trapped
On the way up the mountain
You fed starving Marines
You warned us not to drink
You made helmet liners
You participated in our beauty contest
Each day you passed out
You took a needle and thread
You used powdered coffee creamer & sugar
When a priest came to celebrate mass
You calmed your men
You played a game with your men
When Tom Strande
When a Marine who
You shared with your squad
Your life was saved by our scout dog
You were cut down by an M-79 grenade
You were tightly wrapped by a friend
