The first time I met Johnny Miles, I was 5 years old and he was 4. I told my mother that she had to take me to the store to buy a pair of sneakers so I could sneak up on Johnny Miles because he always wanted to fight me. Fifteen years later, my best friend died in a lonely jungle in Vietnam. John was always very patriotic. His favorite actor was John Wayne and his favorite song (after anything by the Beatles) was "Ballad of the Green Berets". I joined the Air Force at nineteen and John joined the Army at eighteen.

I was in my last month of a one year electronics technical school when my mother called me at Keesler AFB and told me that my best friend of the last fifteen years had been killed in Vietnam, just about five months after joining the Army. I cried that night. I am sure his fiancï¿ 1/2 e cried for many, many nights after that. I never made another really close friend after that except for my wife, Kay, who has been my best friend for the last 30 years. I now have two daughters and three wonderful grandchildren, a boy and two girls. John never got that chance. I miss you, John! We must never forget!

Thank You,
Bill Moeller
