Larry and I first met in Camp Pendleton, California about June 26th, 1969. We had a great time together and shared many words with each other during that month and became very close friends.

On July, 26th or 27th we boarded a plane together at El Toro MCAS, California and headed toward Da Nang, South Vietnam. We arrived there during the late afternoon on July 28th, 1969.

We were processed into the 1st Marine Division and sent to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment in a place that was known to us as the Sand Dunes. We spent the night there before being processed into the Companies that we would serve with.

The next morning we were told to report to the Lima Company hooch for processing. Larry and I had hoped that we would be processed into the same Company together but that hope was soon shattered by a Sgt from H&S Company.

The Company clerk from H&S Company which was next door to Lima Company stuck his head out of the door and ask if there were any 0341's which is an 81mm Mortar MOS. Immediately I raised my hand up and they took me away to the Mortar Platoon where I remained during my entire tour.

Shortly after that, we moved the entire Battalion to Hill 37, and I saw Larry only a few more times after that.

On a November night while walking from a guard post around the perimeter of Hill 37, I heard the shots go off that took my old friend's life and it was shots that I hear even until this day.

Later I was told that it was Larry.

Well, Larry, 30 years have passed and the memory of my old friend is as bright in my mind as ever and it always will be.

I miss you my friend and I think of you always!!!
