Memories

I remember the good times, I remember the bad.
Good makes me happy and the bad make me sad.
In 1965 America called on us again
To defend her and Honor Her and our Kin.
So off to Vietnam and war we went in 1966,
Humping the boonies and Flying in Huey Slicks.
We fought for our Country, our Honor and died
In jungles, rice paddies and mountain side.
We fought and died bravely not thinking of it twice,
Support from our familes and America would have been nice.
Ridiculed and sworn at spit upon and more -
If we had not done it, who would have fought the war?
Trying to save a forigen nation in time of strife,
We were willing to fight and give our life.
A nation ungrateful for almost 30 years
To this infantryman's soul it brings a tear.
Never shirked our duty, held our heads high with pride,
Holding our brothers and watching them die.
Looking at all the names on this Wall of Stone
Waiting for America to say "Thank you and welcome home!"
