A Note from The Virtual Wall

Although three of the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines' five companies were engaged on 21/22 March at Phoung Dinh during Operation Texas, Golf Company was not among them. The 4th Marines Command Chronology for March 1966 does record an engagement between a Golf Company squad ambush team and a VC element but does not note any US casualties. Never the less, three men from Golf 2/4 were killed in action on 22 March 1966:
  • Cpl Edward J. Devincent, Baltimore, MD;
  • Cpl John C. Robertson, New Smyrna Beach, FL; and
  • Pfc Frank R. Esch, Normal, IL.
