A Note from The Virtual Wall

23 Feb 1969 began with a just-after-midnight 82mm mortar barrage on the 1/5 night defensive position, killing one A Company soldier and wounding five others. At daybreak the battalion began operations with A Company sweeping Highway 1 and B and C Companies conducting separate recon-in-force operations. By day's end, B Company had one soldier wounded by gunfire, while C Company lost two men and had nine more wounded by rocket-propelled grenade fire. The three dead were
