Hey Bud, You were one of us C Troop California Boys, so many in 3rd Platoon alone. We were just havin' fun, trying to stay alive and doing our jobs. Burt's Bar and Grill back at Camp Evans was never the same after all you guys paid the ultimate cost of war. But then again, we didn't get back there often in the first place. There is one person in particular that feels responsible for your death, and I've told him it ain't his fault. I know that's probably OK with you, since you know that it was just your time to go and nothing he or anyone else did or could have done would change anything. But if you would, please see if you can get an angel to come to Earth and soothe his weary mind for awhile. He was your TC. So I'll smoke one for you man, and think about the good times we had. I'll tell the others to come here and see you often, as I will. We need to keep in touch so that the memory never, ever dies. Peace and love hippie man, 9TH INFANTRY DIVISION
The 3rd/5th Cavalry was dismounted in February, 1943, and re-organized under Infantry Tables of
Organization and Equipment. It was re-organized wholly as Infantry in July, 1945, but retained its
Cavalry designation. After Korea, the 3rd/5th Cavalry was de-activated in 1958. In 1966, it was
activated for duty with the 9th Infantry Division "Old Reliables". Upon arrival, the Black Knights
joined in the Division's first major contact of the war -- Operation Colby in 1967.
