"Jimmy Joe was a gunner on a personal carrier and was killed north of Saigon near Chu Chin by a land mine exploding beneath the carrier. He is greatly missed by his only sister and family members."

The 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division Combat After Action Report for Operation WILDERNESS, shows elements of the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry (Mechanized) was conducting a Reconnaisance in Force (RIF) from their night lager. B Company Recon Platoon and C Company (-) were doing the recon in the vicinity of XT 520520 to XT 522538 when an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) from their recon unit hit an anti-tank mine at XT 525518 at 0926 hours that morning. Result of explosion was the death of Jimmie Joe and the APC was destroyed. The APC was taken back to DAU TIENG.
