Mickey was a 1966 graduate of Permian High School, Odessa, Texas. He was one of two in his graduating class to die in Vietnam. Mickey was killed in a vehicle accident. He was less than three weeks from finishing his year tour.

He was like many of us from the Oil Fields of West Texas. We ended up in the service to avoid being drafted, choice not chance.

When I talked with Mickey's mother, I was shown the medals that were presented the family posthumously in late 1971 ... the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal, and from the Republic of Vietnam the Soldier's Honor Medal 2nd Class and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Mickey is remembered on the
Permian Basin Vietnam Memorial

Mickey and I graduated from high school together. He was one of the most fun guys to be around. Many nights were spent at Mickey's house on Beechwood Street having fun, laughing and just enjoying life as only teenagers can. I miss Mickey.
