John, after over 30 years, you're still very much in my thoughts.

My first serious crush at 15 and you, so sweet, respectful.

Such a clear memory of your funeral, the American flag carefully folded into your mother's hands. So little solace for a precious life lost. You'll always have a special place in my memory and my heart.

On a recent visit to Washington D.C., I visited the Wall but was not prepared for the drama and power of that staggering tribute to 58,000 dead. As I touched your name on the Wall, I wept, for you and the tens of thousands of other young men who are mourned and remembered, even still, always.
