Stephanie Hanson is looking for people who knew her father. His name was Gary N. Young and served as a Navy Corpsman. Gary arrived in Vietnam on 9/10/68 and worked in the dispensary at MAG-11 for approximately 5 months. Gary had asked to be assigned as a medic with a Marine Corps helicopter unit and at the end of January, Gary was finally assigned to Marine Air Base Squadron 16, which was part of Marine Air Group 16 (helicopter) stationed at MCAF Marble Mountain, near Da Nang.

Shortly after, on 2/7/69, Gary was with HMM-364, (Call sign Purple Fox) and the CH-46 helicopter he was crewing as a flight medic was shot down while on a Medevac mission in Arizona Territory. Six of the seven aboard were killed. The pilot of that chopper was Ernie Bartolina Jr.

Gary went to Navy boot camp in San Diego, Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego for Hospital Corps School and FMF School at Camp Pendleton.

Gary died a few months before his daughter was born. Stephanie was then adopted, so she knows very little about her Dad. If you knew Gary or had any ideas on where to find men who did, please send email to Gary's daughter, Stephanie Hanson (sh8948@hotmail.com)

Details of the helicopter incident that killed Gary and others.
