I thought it would be proper to mention Sergeant Roger Zizz on this memorial since he gave his life for his country and the Corps. Being in different platoons with Bravo Company 1/3 in 1962, I did not know Roger that well nor were we close buddies. Sergeant Ziss, however, was a Marine who believed in what he was doing and knew that by going into combat he could pay the ultimate price, which he did.

I know his family and friends are proud of Sergeant Ziss for his sacrifice and dedication to defeat Communism. Semper Fi, Sergeant Ziss and may you rest in peace forever.

From a Marine who served with Roger Ziss,

A Note from The Virtual Wall

Sergeant Ziss was killed in an engagement when a cordon-and-search operation flushed a dozen armed Viet Cong from Le Son (2) hamlet, about 6 kilometers south-southeast of the Tuy Loan Bridge.
