Lt. Gregory was killed in a plane crash on July 25, 1970, days after his 31st birthday. He was killed over water in the Gulf of Tonkin offshore North Vietnam. He was from Virginia Beach, Va, and he was married. His body was never recovered.

A note from The Virtual Wall

Lieutenant Paul Gregory, assigned to Fighter Squadron 92 embarked in USS AMERICA (CVA-66), died when his F-4J PHANTOM went down in the Gulf of Tonkin. His Radar Intercept Officer sucessfully ejected and was picked by SAR forces, but there was no sign of LT Gregory. It is unknown whether Gregory attempted to eject from his aircraft or if he "rode it in" while attempting to recover the aircraft.
