It has been 36 years since we lost you and we still miss you as much now as we did then.

"Those whom we love go out of sight,
But never out of mind:
They are cherished in the hearts,
Of those they leave behind.
Loving and kind in all his ways,
Upright and just to the end of his days.
Sincere and true in heart and mind,
Beautiful memories he left behind."

You will live forever in our hearts, Tommie

Tommie, Thinking about you today and
just want to know that you are missed
as much today as you were the day we
lost you. You sure wouldn't believe
how this world has changed and it isn't
good.

God bless you til we meet again.
Love always, Bonnie

It has been 38 years since we lost you dear
brother and you have been missed every single
day. Not a day goes by that I don't think of
you.

So much has happened in our family since then
that it would take a book to write it all. Mother
is in a nursing home now where she will be for the
rest of her life. Sure wish you were here - I have so
much I need to talk to you about. Maybe you could
help me understand all that is happening.

I know that you are in a better place now with
Daddy, but I miss you both so much.

Well dear Tom until we meet in that better land
God bless and keep you til I get there.

Deeply missed by sister Bonnie

In memory of my brother Tommie Brandes who was killed in Vietnam on November 17th, 1965.

I cannot say, and I will not say
That he is dead. He is just away!
With a cheery smile and a wave of the hand
He has wandered into an unknown land
And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be since he lingers there
And you - oh you, who the wildest yearn
For the old-time step and the glad return.
Think of you faring, as dear,
In the love of there, as the love of here.
Think of him still as the same, I say
He is not dead - he is just away.

You are missed just as much today
as the day you were taken from us, Tommie.

Missing you forever, Bonnie

15 Apr 2006

Dear Tom,
You wouldn't believe what your old sis and your friend Judie have gone and done now. We saw these motor bikes for sale and so we bought them and we're tooling all over town today. I am sure you would be proud of us or think we are both nuts, but we had fun and will take a ride to see you on Easter.

We still miss you as much as the day you passed away and you will always be in our minds and hearts. Sure wish your younger brother had half the sense you had.

Wish you a happy Easter and you will be in my thoughts and heart forever.

Love, Bonnie

IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY BROTHER TOMMIE
WHO WAS KILLED IN VIETNAM IN 1965.

As time goes by without you
And the days turn into years
They hold a million memories
And a thousand silent tears.
Remembering you is easy I do it every day
Missing you is the heartache
That never goes away.
I often talk about you
With love and sad regrets
As today brings back a memory
Of a day I won't forget.

DEEPLY MISSED BY HIS SISTER
Bonnie and family

IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY BROTHER TOMMIE BRANDES
WHO WAS KILLED IN VIETNAM NOV 17TH 1965.

Although your smile is gone
    forever.
And your hands I cannot
    touch,
I will never lose the memory,
Of the one I loved so much,
My heart still aches with
    loneliness,
My eyes shed many a tear,
Life goes on we know that's
    true,
But nothing is the same since
    we lost you.

Deeply missed by sister Bonnie

I don't know you but I honor you like you were my best friend. I can't even imagine going and doing what you have done. May God bless your family and take care of them until they meet with you in eternal happiness. I love you.

On your country's hero roster
Your name is written fair
But we would give the world and all
If only it weren't there;
And you were safe at home with just
Your duty done today;
Instead we've only medals
For which your life did pay.

Thinking of you on this Memorial Day and always, Tommie,

Dear Tommy,

My sister and I want you and your family know how much we miss you. Even though she was younger than us, you would let her tag along and have fun with everyone.

The last time I saw you was in Fort Benning, Georgia. You were on you way to Viet Nam. We never said good-bye but just "See you soon". So until we see you again, Thank You for what you did for our country, our family and my grand-kids.

We miss you.

MY DEAREST TOMMIE

It has been so long since you left us

The world has changed and so have many of the people

Not the fun-loving bunch we all knew and ran around with

I want you to know I am very proud of you and what you did for our country

I think of you every day and thank God that I knew you and you were one of my dearest friends

You don't find friends like you anymore

People just in and out of our lives

Again, thank you for serving our country and being my friend...

Love always,
Judie Schwartz

I met Tom at Fort Benning, and knew him for some time. We were in the same company when it was the 2d Infantry Division. When the 1st Cav Div was established I was sent to B Company, 2d of the 12th Cav. In late October of "65" I had gone into the local town near our base camp in Vietnam, and when I returned some of the others said Tom had been looking for me. I regret that I missed him. Even though over 38 years has passed, not too many days go by that do not think of him.

Dear Tommy,
Though we never met I know you very well.
This time of year I think of all our Soldiers
who are serving our country and those who
have done so before.

I served in the same war as you, but in the
USMC and didn’t pay the ultimate price you
paid, that we may enjoy our freedom. But I
knew many who did.

May God Bless you and keep you close to Him.
