I am in the process of learning all I can about my Uncle Charles. My Aunt, his widow, is sick, never remarried, and I can't very well talk to her about him. All I know is he was 32 when he died. He and my Aunt had 4 children. He was killed around November of 1968. When they found him they recovered a picture of my brother, who was just an infant, in his pocket. He was killed by a "flame gun". He was a green beret?? His name was Charles Dorian Bullard, SSG Army from Arlington, Tx. Thank you very much. May God Bless You! Barbara R. |
A Note from The Virtual WallThe Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) had a closely-controlled group responsible for a variety of clandestine warfare operations. Known as the Studies and Observation Group, MACV-SOG operated through three major headquarters - Command and Control North (CCN), Command and Control Central (CCC), and Command and Control South (CCS). Although MACV-SOG drew forces from all the service branches, the majority of their personnel were Army Special Forces from the 5th Special Forces Group. The MACV-SOG units operated separately from other Special Forces units and specialized in running reconnaissance and surveillance missions well into enemy controlled territory in South Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. CCC operated several Forward Operating Bases; FOB-2 was in Kontum Province.On 28 Jan 1969 a recon team, consisting of three US and four ARVN personnel, was inserted into Laos. The team made radio contact at dusk of the 29th, but nothing further was heard from them. A Bright Light reaction team was inserted near their last known location and found evidence where the recon team had taken a break. A little further on the Bright Light team identified an ambush site; by tracking blood trails, the remains of the entire seven-man recon team were located and recovered. The three Americans were
