The photo and following article are taken from The Philadelphia Daily News, special supplement entitled 'SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY,' October 26, 1987. The special supplement was issued in conjunction with the dedication of the Philadelphia Viet Nam Memorial.

Behan enlisted in the Army after graduating from Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1963 and working as a machinist for three years. He got married and shipped out to Viet Nam during the 1967 Christmas holiday season for assignment with Company C of the 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division. "Everthing's fine. Put in your application so you will be sure to be with me in Hawaii," he wrote in his last letter to his new bride. The 22-year-old specialist four, a rifleman, died on May 10, 1968, the day the first round of peace talks between the United States and North Viet Nam opened in Paris. Behan was survived by his wife, parents, three brothers and a sister.

Though I never met you, You made the ultimate sacrifice along with my brother during the battle of the Y Bridge in Saigon. You will always be remembered when I think of him.

From the brother of a fallen comrade,
