Captain Raymond Celeste was my first Company Commander when I was a new Lieutenant in the 9th Infantry. He was an exceptional officer who was probably destined for greater things had he not met his untimely death in Vietnam. He taught me a lot about life and being an officer in my own right. I keep him in my thoughts and prayers and wish that others might also do this. He is worthy of our remembrance and appreciation. He had been promoted to Major by the time of his death in Vietnam. I have records in storage and will try to add a photo in the future. If there are others of you "out there" who knew Major Celeste, please feel free to add to this page.

SP4 Terry Wintermoyer was with Major Celeste when he died. In fact when he (Major Celeste) was shot Sp4 Terry Wintermoyer went to get a medic for him - and was himself shot and killed. Major Celeste had talked to Terry Wintermoyer about going to OCS and he was going to help him get into the OCS program. Terry joined the MACV because he did not feel he was doing enough when he was with the 101st. That was how Terry Wintermoyer met Major Celeste.

From a relative of SP4 Wintermoyer.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

Very little is known about the loss of two men from MACV's ARVN Ranger Advisory Team TD-37 on 22 Nov 1965 ... just their names: MAJ Raymond Celeste of Woodside, New York, and SP4 Terry Wintermoyer of Silver Spring, Maryland.

Major Celeste was a West Point graduate.
