I didn't know Ron, but my father and uncle grew up with him in the Irondequoit suburb of Rochester, N.Y. I went to same high school as Ron, West Irondequoit High, and I always remember walking by Ron's mural in the hallway by the entrance of the gym, thinking about how my dad used to talk about him. My uncle was closer with Ron than my dad was because my dad was a few years younger than them but says today that if Ron was still with us that he would be very close with Ron because of the Vietnam bond that they would of shared. My father was drafted three years after Ron was in the Navy. My dad and uncle never had anything bad to say about Ron. Just that he was a man's man. And a hero. R.I.P. Ron

A Note from The Virtual Wall

The February 1969 NAVFORV History contains the following entry regarding two rocket attacks on the Navy facilities at Danang Harbor, north of the Marble Mountain Airfield:

Three sailors died in the first attack on the covered storage area, about 6 kilometers north of MMAF. The second attack probably would have caused as few casualties except for the lucky hit on LCU-1500, which was fully laden with munitions for transport to Dong Ha in Quang Tri Province. It was mostly the secondary explosions and fires which killed 20 sailors aboard LCU-1500 and YFU-78.
