A Note from The Virtual Wall

The Army Transporation Command at Fort Eustis, Virginia, has the following note in one oh its unit histories:
"On 2 September 1967, a returning convoy out of Peliku in the Central Highlands was ambushed by a North Vietnamese Army (NVA) company destroying 27 trucks and killing or wounding as many drivers. Up until that time ambushes had only destroyed individual trucks. From that time on, the enemy focused on shutting down the life line of the combat units, especially the helicopter units, by ambushing entire convoys"
At least eight men, all from units of the Army Support Command Qui Nhon, are known to have died in the ambush:
  • 90th Supply Co, 45th GS Group
    • SP5 James M. Bagshaw, Belleville, PA

  • 54th Trans Bn, 8th Trans Group
    • SSG Claude L. Collins, Conway, SC, 512th Trans Co
    • SP4 Ronald W. Simmons, Blackwell, OK, 512th Trans Co
    • PFC Roy L. Greensage, Marlin, TX, 669th Trans Co
    • PFC William A. Gunter, Natchez, LA, 523rd Trans Co
    • PFC Lloyd R. Hughey, Circleville, OH, 669th Trans Co
    • PFC Arthur W. Reinhardt, New York, NY, 512th Trans Co
    • PFC Robert L. Stebner, Streetsboro, OH, 57th Trans Co
