Gene was the cousin of a good friend and golfing partner of mine who was a Navy corpsman. I was in the USN from 1961-67 but fortunately was never sent to Vietnam although I have tremendous pride for those who served there and anyone who ever wore the uniform regardless of their service branch.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 22 July 1968 PFC Eugene D. Schindler and PFC Wilhelm Hurkmans, a scout dog handler from the 43rd Infantry Platoon attached to B Company, 2/39th Infantry, died in an accident of war.
