A Note from The Virtual Wall

Two men from F Troop, 9th Cavalry, were killed on 20 June 1972 when their AH-1G Cobra (tail number 67-15718) was shot down by an SA-7 hand-held missile near An Loc:
  • CWO Burdette D. Townsend, Oneonta, NY, pilot
  • 1LT Louis K. Breuer, Richardson, TX, copilot
This unit was established in Vietnam on 30 June 1971 as H Troop, 16th Cavalry, a unit designation never approved by the Department of the Army but never the less in common use until about May 1972. The Virtual Wall uses the official designation - F Troop, 9th Cavalry.
