Robert Eugene Askam is on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Panel 22W Line 062.
I served with Robert Askam in Vietnam. He was as special as they come. Whenever he received letters and packages from home (and he always had them waiting when we returned to the rear), he'd read and share his bounty with our squad. I feel that his brothers, sisters and parents are my own.
It's been 37 years since he was taken from us, but I think of him daily. He'll always be with me.
