My heroes are the ones who gave their lives so others
can live in freedom. I only knew Don for 7 months but he
was the life of the section and one of the best friends
I've ever had. Don is a true American hero.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

Shortly before midnight on 09 Aug 1970, an enemy force attacked Fire Support Base GWEN, located about 24 miles north-northwest of Ham Tan in Binh Thuy Province. Four US soldiers were killed:
  • A Co, 5th Bn, 12th Infantry
    • CPL John H. Lightsey, Odum, GA

  • D Btry, 2nd Bn, 40th Artillery
