William H. Ayers, son of Cliff and Dora Ayers, was graduated from Stephens County High School in 1966. He attended North Georgia Tech before entering the United States Army. SP4 Ayers died of wounds received from the explosion of a mine. He was interred with full military honors in the Stephens Memorial Gardens. Specialist Four William Herschel Ayers is remembered and honored by his community and by his comrades in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Leon Williams Post 4346, Toccoa, Stephens County, Georgia. Stephens County, Georgia, lost eight of its sons in Vietnam. All are memorialized on The Virtual Wall:
