A Note from The Virtual WallThe skies of South Vietnam were crowded, particularly near helicopter bases where numerous aircraft were operating at relatively low altitudes. On 27 June 1966, two UH-1 Hueys from different units lifted off from Tuy Hoa North airfield in Phu Yen Province. UH-1B 64-14047 took off on a northwest heading, while UH-1B 65-09486 took off on a westerly heading and then made a right turn to a northwest heading. The two aircraft collided, crashed, and burned, killing all eight men aboard:
