A Note from The Virtual Wall On 10 Sep 1967, during Operation KINGFISHER, the 3rd Bn, 26th Marines endured a vicious fight at Hill 48, located about 6 kilometers south of the Con Thien outpost. Thirty-nine Marines and sailors died in the fighting, seven from H&S Company, four of whom were Navy Corpsmen: HQ & Svc Co 3/26 - 7 men CWO2 Richard L. Holycross, Grove City, OH Cpl Edward W. Kines, Cairo, GA HM3 Richard L. Spaulding, Englewood, CO HN Charles L. Bernard, East St Louis, IL HN Albert M. Butsko, Westerville, OH HN Eric R. Radtke, Menomonee Falls, WI LCpl Hulan D. Roland, Canton, MS India Co 3/26 - 4 men Kilo Co 3/26 - 9 men Mike Co 3/26 - 6 men Alpha Co, 3rd Antitank Bn - 1 man Bravo Co, 3rd Tank Bn - 4 men Lima Co 3/26 - 8 men "You guys are the Marine's doctors - There's none better in the business than a Navy Corpsman ..." -- Lieutenant General "Chesty" Puller -- Visit John Dennison's Medics on the Wall memorial which honors the Army Medics and Navy Corpsmen who died in Vietnam.
