23 Jun 2003 We grew up together. We were also neighbors. I was at Danang AFB, RVN, when Danny was KIA. I called his unit as I wanted to go see him. I was in the USAF, 366 Security Police Sdn, at Danang. Dan was a good kid and a great loss to everyone who knew him. I'm sure he was a good soldier too! I will never get over his death. I will see him again in that big army in the sky. He died too young as did so many others. Twentyone is too young to go, you don't know what life is about yet. August 3 2003 Although I didn't know Danny very well, as he was 8 years older than me, I grew up with his brother Mickey (Chops). I remember it was the summer between my eighth grade and freshman year, the whole community was devastated and shocked at the news. Until that time the war was only something I watched on the nightly news with my family. The loss of Danny brought it home, and put a face on it! One of the first moments in my young life of actually experiencing that overwhelming feeling of pride was standing at attention in my Boy Scout uniform, with the rest of the troop, as the American flag flew over the Danny Carey Memorial, on Memorial Day.
