Bronze Star with "V" Device
Randy was the youngest child in our family of five Carpenter children. He was my only brother. My mom had three girls before he came along and it was really a great thing to have a "kid Brother". We were sixteen years apart and I guess I was in some ways almost an uncle to him. I encouraged him to take up the guitar in those years of the folk music craze of the '60's. I took him to see Pete Seeger in downtown Chicago at one of the theatres. I bought him a record of Pete's which was instructional in learning to play the guitar. It was a big old vinyl LP. I also bought him a set of golf clubs. He was such a good kid. We all miss him so and choke up when we think about him as I am doing now. This remembrance is for Memorial Day 2001. Oh how I wish he could have lived or visited with us here in Florida and met all his nieces and nephews and cousins! His older brother |
