I was a fellow Marine Recruit with Paul while at MCRD San Diego, CA. in August/October 1965, Platoon #267. In 1963, Paul was one of 8 young men nominated for appointment to the West Point Military Academy from the 3rd Congressional District in Ohio. Although he was not selected, he was a patriot and joined the Corps.

Semper Fi, Marine, you are not forgotten.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 24 May 1966 a reinforced squad from Alpha 1/7 was conducting a patrol about 10 kilometers east-southeast of Chu Lai Airfield. At about 1045 they established a perimeter and the patrol leader sent out a four-man security element 150 meters distant. The element was engaged by four VC, with two Marines killed in the initial burst of fire. They were Cpl John Green of Jamaica, New York, and Pfc Paul L. Conrad.
