31 Dec 2001 We called him Skip, a nickname that had stuck with him since a child. He was only 19 when he was killed near Quang Tri. He wrote of terrible conditions he had to endure. He entered the service on Jan. 6, 1966 and was killed by Sept. 24. He was so young, had his whole life ahead of him yet. We wish he were still here. Sadly missed by his sisters, Myrtle, Diane and Pat boles@midwest.net

A Note from The Virtual Wall On 24 Sep 1966, Golf Company, 2/7 Marines, was one of the units involved in Operation Prairie in Quang Tri Province just south of the Demilitarized Zone. While moving through an unfamiliar area, the company came under intense mortar, machine-gun and sniper fire from what was later estimated to be a North Vietnamese regiment.
