C CO, 3RD BN, 1ST INF RGT, 11 INF BDE
From Chicago, IL
11 September 1943 - 09 September 1969
2LT Greco was a member of my Officer Candidate Platoon. 2nd Platoon, 63rd Company, Fort Benning, Georgia, during the Spring of 1968.
As a Candidate, Greco suffered all of the hardships, indignities, push ups, low crawls, pull ups, forced marches, distance runs, that each of us suffered. If anything, he suffered more than most.
Candidate Greco survived OCS with a positive attitute and a sense of dignity. We were all designated as Commissioned Officers on September 30, 1968.
After that I lost track of Greco. He was assigned to one company and I was assigned to another.
Years later I met another member of the OCS class. He informed me that Greco had died in Vietnam -- a few days before I even arrived in country. I was devastated.
There are many of us alive who keep LT Greco's memory alive. I hope his family will see this tribute.
Michel Greco deserved a long and fulfilling life here on earth. I pray he found it in Heaven. He deserved it.
Michel Greco did not have to attend Officer Candidate School. He chose to volunteer to become an officer.
