REMEMBERING CHRISTIANA'S ONLY FALLEN HERO IN THE VIETNAM CONFLICT.

On 25 June 1967, the personnel carrier he was in hit a mine on a bridge in Dinh Tuong Province while heading to the aid of other U.S. troops.

The photo and following article appeared in the Daily Intelligencer Journal, Lancaster, PA, on June 28, 1967:

CHRISTIANA GI KILLED IN VIETNAM
13th County Victim of War; Personnel Carrier Hits Mine

Sp-4 Ronald H. Groff, 21, of 104 Elizabeth St., Christiana, was killed in South Vietnam on Sunday where he had been seen serving since December 22, 1966.

Groff, the thirteenth Lancaster Countian to die in the war, is believed to have been killed when a personnel carrier in which he was riding struck a land mine.

He was attached to Company B, 5th Battalion, the 60th Infantry of the United States Army.

Before entering the service on December 1, 1965, he lived in West Chester (PA) and was employed by the American Viscose Division of F.M.C. Corp. at Kennett Square (PA).

He was a member of the Calvary Monument Bible Church of Paradise (PA).

He is survived by his parents, W. Paul and Emma Hoisington Groff, Christiana. Also surviving are two brothers, Larry of Glenmoore R1, and Daryl C., of Fort Benning, Ga., and one sister, Linda D. Groff, at home.
