23 Jul 2005 A beloved High School friend, of whom I had the privilege to be reunited at Fort Eustis, Virginia, and made a special trip in his small winged aircraft to Fort Story, Virginia, just to visit a High School chum. A Note from The Virtual Wall Shortly after 9 AM on 28 Dec 68, Major William E. McDonald, Commanding Officer of the 10th Aviation Battalion, took off in UH-1D tail number 64-13668 on an administrative flight. Eight passengers were aboard in addition to the four-man crew. Take-off was normal and the aircraft proceeded in a northeasterly direction over a rubber tree plantation. The UH-1 had travelled approximately 1 kilometer from takeoff when it crashed, killing five men and injuring the other seven. The dead were MAJ William E. McDonald, Pittsburgh, PA, pilot, HHC, 10th Avn Bn WO Donald J. Shang, Highpoint, NC, copilot, HHC, 10th Avn Bn SFC James G. Wright, Washington, DC, crew chief, HHC, 10th Avn Bn WO Richard C. Pugh, Sherman Oaks, CA, passenger, 155th AHC SSG William E. McGuire, Moultrie, GA, passenger, 568th Medical Co
