We were with you the day you left for active duty. You made us kids laugh that evening with that toy helicopter with the the blades that spun. I always thought that thing actually flew, but I know better now, technology wasn't that advanced back then. We thought you were the "coolest" and you were our Uncle. I remember how sad Dad was when he learned you had passed on, he's with you now... I hope.

Funny how fate would have it, after all my travels, I now live in the same town as you lived, drive by your headstone twice a day, can see the college you attended from my office, and every now and then, I drive past the Army Reserve Facility where you were stationed. It's still operational, just like you left it.

You had good people with you when you passed. Dan made it through March 2 and is still around, and Porky, well you know, he gave all he could. The Shadow Box we are building for you can barely hold all the things you earned during your service to our country. I didn't mean to receive all the medals and what not, they just sent them to me. Hope you don't mind. We are flying your flag over The White House on 9/11/04. They asked me for a date and that's the first thing that came to mind.

My second son's name is Jordan Louis McFarland, in your honor.

You are our Hero.
